The National Museum of Scotland

Formerly the Royal Museum of Scotland, the National Museum of Scotland is located in the centre of Edinburgh's historic Old Town, where you are just minutes away from the famous Royal Mile and Edinburgh Castle. The Museum is dedicated to the people of Scotland and its culture. On display, is a wealth of Scottish history including 'The Lewis Chessmen', which is to date one of the most significant archaeological discoveries ever to be made in Scotland. Take a look at the collection of gold from the Iron Age, which made news headlines in September 2010, when it was discovered by an avid treasure hunter in a field near Sterling - it is said to be dated around 300-100 BC! Edinburgh Castle

Edinburgh Zoo

Opened in 1913 and owned by The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland, Edinburgh Zoo is set within 82 acres of parkland and houses almost 1000 rare and endangered animals, including Chimpanzees, Koalas, Leopards and many species of Birds and Reptiles. A more recent addition to the Zoo, are the rare and mighty Sun Bears. An ideal day out for both children and adults alike, you will be able to take a round trip on one of the Hilltop Safari vehicles, or choose to take the lengthy walk down the hill with a member of the expert Zoo staff who will allow you to get up close to some of its 'furry' residents. There's so much to be seen and lots of activities throughout the day, including the spectacular Penguin Parade. Edinburgh Zoo is open EVERY day of the year (including Christmas!) and it is estimated that there are over half a million visitors to this attraction each year, with some people going back again and again. Look out for special offers on admission throughout the year so you have more to spend in the gift shop at the end of your visit!

Princes Street
